Players create characters, complete quests, explore expansive environments, and engage in activities like combat, crafting, or trading, often cooperating or competing with others in real-time. Popular examples include World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV.

AI V Tuber

An AI VTuber is a virtual YouTuber whose avatar and persona are powered or enhanced by artificial intelligence, rather than solely relying on human performance or motion capture. In traditional VTubing, a human content creator controls their virtual avatar in real-time using motion capture or face tracking technology. However, in the case of an AI VTuber, the virtual avatar may be fully autonomous, driven by AI algorithms that allow it to generate responses, interactions, and content without direct human input.

Doujinshi

Doujinshi (同人誌) are often derivative of existing works and created by amateurs, though some professional artists participate in order to publish material outside the regular industry. These works are typically produced in small quantities and sold directly to fans at conventions or online. The term originates from the Japanese words "doujin" (同人), meaning "like-minded individuals" or "groups with shared interests," and "shi" (誌), meaning "magazine" or "publication."

DAO

A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is a blockchain-based entity governed by rules encoded as smart contracts, which are self-executing programs running on a blockchain. Unlike traditional organizations that rely on centralized management or hierarchical structures, a DAO operates through decentralized governance, where decisions are made collectively by its members.

Mana or Mana bar

A Mana bar is a visual representation in video games that indicates a character's current level of magical energy, often referred to as "mana," which is used to cast spells or perform special abilities; essentially, it's a gauge that shows how much magical power a character has available to use before needing to replenish it, similar to a health bar but for magical actions like summoning.

Liquidity Pool

A Liquidity pool is a collection of cryptocurrency funds locked into a smart contract on a blockchain, used to facilitate trading, lending, or other financial activities in decentralized finance (DeFi) systems. These pools are the backbone of many decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and DeFi platforms, enabling users to trade tokens directly with the pool without relying on traditional order books or intermediaries.

Tokenomics

Tokenomics (a portmanteau of "token" and "economics") refers to the study and design of the economic systems surrounding cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based tokens. It encompasses the supply, distribution, and use of tokens within a particular blockchain project, as well as the incentives that drive user behavior and network growth.

Generative Artwork

Generative art is a type of algorithmic process where an actual artist creates dozens to hundreds of smaller artistic assets within an image, often exceeding the amount of possible artworks in a picture many times over. The assets are then inputted into a computer program and set into motion with some degree of autonomy contributing to and resulting in a completed work of art. Each Art piece has an rarity as each individual asset has a fixed drop rate which is a reflection of the inherent scarcity of its generation.

NFT

An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital asset that represents ownership or proof of authenticity of a specific item, using blockchain technology. Unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are fungible (interchangeable with identical units), NFTs are non-fungible, meaning each one has distinct properties that make it one of a kind.

Whitelist

Whitelist refers to a list of approved addresses, users, or entities that are granted exclusive access to participate in a specific event or activity. It is often used in situations where access needs to be controlled or limited, such as in token sales, NFT launches, or airdrops.

Gacha Games ( Gashapon )

Gacha games are a genre of video games that use a mechanic similar to a capsule-toy vending machine (popularly known as "gashapon" in Japan) where players spend in-game currency to "pull" for randomized characters, items, or upgrades. This mechanic is central to the game’s progression and monetization, often blending elements of chance and strategy.

Hentai

Hentai (Japanese: ヘンタイ) is a style of Japanese pornographic anime and manga. In addition to anime and manga, hentai works exist in a variety of media, including artwork and video games.

Summoning

The Summoning feature in mobile games, particularly in genres like gacha games, role-playing games (RPGs), and strategy games, allows players to "summon" or "pull" for new characters, items, or creatures. It is a central mechanic used to unlock or acquire new assets that can aid in progressing through the game. The summoning process is often randomized, with different probabilities for obtaining different tiers of characters or items.

In mobile summoning games, a Banner refers to a special event or promotion that features a specific pool of characters, items, or units that players can summon or "pull" from. Banners are often time-limited and are a key part of the game's summoning system, driving excitement by offering increased chances to obtain rare or exclusive rewards.

DeepL

DeepL is an AI-powered translation service that is known for providing highly accurate and natural-sounding translations between multiple languages. It was developed by DeepL GmbH, a company based in Germany. DeepL uses advanced neural network technology to improve the quality of machine translation, often outperforming other popular translation tools like Google Translate, especially in terms of fluency and context.

LORAs

In the context of AI and machine learning, LORA (Low-Rank Adaptation) is a technique designed to fine-tune or adapt large language models (LLMs) more efficiently. It focuses on reducing the computational cost and memory usage associated with training large models while still allowing them to learn new tasks or domains.

Checkpoints

Checkpoints refer to saved states or versions of an AI model during its training process. These checkpoints store the model’s learned parameters, weights, or internal configurations at specific points in time. In terms of AI-generated art, checkpoints are often used to either resume training after a pause or to fine-tune the model, adapting it to create specific types of images based on prior training data.

Airdrop

An airdrop is the distribution of free digital tokens or coins to a specific group of users, typically as part of a marketing campaign, community-building effort, or network upgrade. Airdrops are often used by blockchain projects to promote their platform, reward loyal supporters, or incentivize participation in the ecosystem.

Llama-3.1

AI models like LLaMA 3.1 are large-scale language models developed by Meta (formerly Facebook). LLaMA (Large Language Model Meta AI) is part of a family of language models that have been trained on vast datasets to understand and generate human-like text. LLaMA models are designed to be more efficient and accessible compared to some of the larger models like GPT-3, offering similar performance with fewer parameters, making them more computationally efficient and suitable for a wider range of uses.

DeFi

DeFi stands for Decentralized Finance, which refers to a movement within the cryptocurrency and blockchain space that seeks to recreate traditional financial services using decentralized technologies, primarily blockchain. Unlike traditional finance (TradFi), where intermediaries such as banks, brokers, and insurance companies play a central role in transactions, DeFi eliminates these intermediaries by utilizing smart contracts, blockchain networks, and decentralized protocols.

Weeb

A weeb (short for weeaboo) is a colloquial term originating from internet subcultures to describe a person, often outside of Japan, who exhibits an excessive or exaggerated admiration for Japanese culture, particularly anime, manga, and related media. The term is sometimes used pejoratively to describe individuals who appropriate or idealize Japanese culture to the extent of neglecting their own cultural identity or misrepresenting Japan. Historically, it emerged in the early 2000s from online communities and was initially a term of mockery, though it has since been embraced by some fans as a self-identifying label within the global fandom of Japanese pop culture.

PvP/PvE

  • PvE (Player vs. Environment) refers to game modes where players fight against computer-controlled enemies, or the environment itself, rather than other players. In PvE, the focus is on completing quests, defeating AI-controlled monsters, or surviving environmental challenges. Examples include most role-playing games (RPGs) and cooperative multiplayer games like World of Warcraft.

  • PvP (Player vs. Player) refers to game modes where players compete directly against one another. In PvP, the goal is to defeat other human players, either in competitive one-on-one battles or larger team-based confrontations. Examples include games like League of Legends and Fortnite.

Best Girl

To a weeb or otaku, "Best Girl" is the ultimate female character in an anime, manga, or game who captures their heart and loyalty above all others. She’s the one they’ll passionately defend in online debates, spam relentless in message boards or comment incessantly just how much she “deserves happiness.” It’s not just about being cute or cool—Best Girl resonates on a deeper level, embodying the ideal of femininity.
